Most of us are familiar with “good” dental habits like brushing and flossing, but do you know about the habits that could actually be hurting your oral hygiene? Take a look at these habits and see if you have any to get rid of…

1. Brushing your teeth only!

Brushing your teeth is a great place to start, but it’s only part of the battle plan for a healthy mouth! Your daily oral hygiene should consist of more than brushing your teeth…read on to find out more.

2. Brushing Your Teeth Too Hard.

Brushing harder is not better!  In fact, brushing too hard can damage your tooth enamel and your gums. Brush softly in a circular motion to remove the harmful germs from your teeth and gums.<

3. Brush Only Twice a Day.

Germs grow at the rate of 20 billion per hour in your mouth. Ewww, that’s a lot of germs!  You should brush at least twice a day! Ideally, you should brush after every meal. It may sound like a lot, but your teeth are worth it.

4. Skipping flossing.

Not flossing is a really, really bad idea! You are missing the germs that build up in between your teeth and this can lead to periodontal disease and cavities. Never skip flossing!

5. Piercing Your Tongue

While it’s not a habit, it’s just not a great idea! It can lead to a variety of problems including an infection. Just say no to tongue piercing!
